This research aims to analyze the manifestations of visual pollution in the city of Hawija, determine its causes, and reveal spatial disparities within the residential neighborhoods of the study area. The study relied on the field aspect in detecting the problem of visual pollution, which included distributing a questionnaire form to the residents of the study area in the form of a random sample of (250 questionnaire forms). Distributed to various residential neighborhoods. Several visual pollution variables, numbering (19) indicators, were identified in assessing the level of visual pollution in the city, and factor and cluster analysis was used to detect factors and classify patterns of pollutants according to their relationship to other factors, as hardly any neighborhood is devoid of visual pollutants.
One of the primary factors contributing to visual pollution in the city of Hawija is the accumulation of waste, debris, and a chaotic mix of colors, in addition to the presence of dangling and tangled electrical wires from private generators. Most of the city’s main commercial streets suffer from high levels of visual pollution. Four distinct patterns of visual pollution have been identified: scattered pollution, vehicle-related pollution, mass-based (bulk) pollution, and linear pollution. Each of these patterns is further divided into four subcategories, encompassing various types of visual pollutants. Given the variation in visual pollutants across the neighborhoods of Hawija, the pollutants have been classified into different ranks and levels based on their nature, intensity, and overall impact.
