This research examines the appositional construction in the context of affirmation in the Holy Quran, as a grammatical phenomenon of significant semantic and rhetorical value that contributes to constructing and solidifying meaning in the mind of the recipient. In this context, the apposition is considered the intended element of the ruling, as the antecedent is mentioned in preparation for its appearance, fulfilling the functions of clarification, specification, and removal of ambiguity, thus limiting the possibilities of expansion or unintended interpretation.
The study adopted a grammatical-semantic approach by tracing examples of Quranic verses in which the apposition appears in the context of affirmation and analyzing them grammatically and semantically. It revealed that the apposition in this context varies into several patterns, most notably: the single apposition and the compound apposition. The single apposition appears as the most common, occurring in various forms, including the substitution of one noun for another noun and one verb for another verb. It also branches into the apposition of whole for whole, the apposition of part for whole, and the apposition of inclusion, each pattern having a specific semantic function.
The substitution of the whole for the whole achieves complete correspondence and performs the functions of emphasis and confirmation, while the substitution of a part for the whole serves to specify and restrict. The substitution of inclusion reveals an implicit meaning related to the original without being part of it. Syntactic substitution is manifested in the substitution of one sentence for another or one word for another, playing an active role in explanation and elaboration after generalization, thus enhancing the clarity of meaning and strengthening its rhetorical impact.
The analysis has shown that the occurrence of substitution in affirmative contexts is linked to precise semantic purposes, most notably: emphasis, magnification, suspense, vivid imagery, and warning, in addition to its contribution to achieving textual coherence. Thus, it becomes clear that substitution is not limited to being a grammatical modifier but rather transcends this to become an effective tool in directing and solidifying meaning, reflecting the precision of Qur'anic expression and its semantic richness.
