The internal music in the elegies of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) in the collection of Sayyid Mahdi bin Dawoud al-Hilli, selected for revision

Abstract

The research aims to investigate the phenomenon of repetition in the elegies of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) in the collection of Sayyid Mahdi bin Dawud al-Hilli, as a musical factor to which the poet resorts for various reasons, including those related to the completeness of the metrical foot, which cannot be exceeded at the end of the line. Furthermore, the meaning required, which may jump to the second half of the line, requires the poet to pursue it. Repetition may also relate to the techniques of each poetic meter in terms of the completeness or incompleteness of its feet, or to the shifts and defects that afflict poetic meters and their relationship to its limited use. We conducted a census to demonstrate the extent of its presence in each meter, along with its proportions, to enable us to present the reasons based on our findings.
