Abstract

This research examines the significance of the preposition "ma'a" (with) in grammatical theory and within the Quranic context. It aims to investigate the various grammatical interpretations offered by grammarians regarding its functional meaning, including its various grammatical functions as a noun and a particle, ultimately leading to its diverse semantic meanings in the Holy Quran. "Ma'a" appears in the Quran with several meanings and diverse connotations, which are understood from the context and interpreted accordingly. While all these meanings share a general sense, namely, that of its companion, it also possesses other meanings, some of which partially imply accompaniment, while others do not. These include temporal and spatial adverbials, the meaning of leadership, or it can function as a conjunction with other prepositions such as "inda" (at), "ba'da" (after), "ala" (on), and "ba'a" (with). With a presentation of what the interpreters and linguists said and an explanation of the effect of the context in guiding the Qur’anic text, and an explanation of the difference of opinions in guiding it according to what the situation requires, and the nature of the research required that it be divided into two sections preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion, then a list of the research sources and references. In the first section, I dealt with (with) in the functional and grammatical field, where I clarified the grammatical identity of (with), and discussed the disagreement between its noun and its particle, with an explanation of the position of the grammarians on its inflection and construction, as well as presenting some of the languages of the Arabs in its pronunciation, and addressed the cases of its inflection as an adverb of time or place, or its coming as an adverbial in the case of its being alone without addition. The second section was devoted to studying the meaning of (with) in the Qur’anic context, as it presented its meanings in the Qur’anic textual context, and how the context took it out of its original meaning (accompaniment) to other meanings. Then the research concluded with the most important results that the study reached, and then it was attached to it a list of the sources and references on which the research was based
