The Spiritual and Social Purposes of the Arbaeen Pilgrimage: An Analytical Interpretive Study

Abstract

The research aims to reveal the spiritual and social purposes of the Arbaeen pilgrimage in light of the Holy Quran, through an interpretive and analytical approach. The first section addressed the spiritual purposes, and included three topics:

The concept of objectives, both linguistically and technically, deepening the connection with God and pure monotheism, and evoking the meanings of martyrdom, sacrifice, and psychological purification. The second section addressed social objectives through three demands: reviving the spirit of the nation and social solidarity, embodying the concept of one nation, and spreading the values ​​of peace and non-violence.

The research concluded that the Arbaeen pilgrimage is not merely a devotional practice or a historical ritual, but rather a comprehensive Quranic school that aims to build the faithful individual, foster national cohesion, and disseminate fundamental human values.

Research question: What are the spiritual and social objectives of the Arbaeen pilgrimage in light of the Holy Quran, and how can it contribute to building the individual and society from an interpretive and analytical perspective?

What the research achieved: clarifying the relationship between the Qur’anic text and the Husseini rituals, highlighting the centrality of the Qur’an in understanding the Arbaeen pilgrimage, and revealing the spiritual dimension of the ritual in strengthening monotheism

It also highlights the shahada, psychological purification, and social dimension of the pilgrimage in strengthening the spirit of the nation, consolidating the concept of unity, disseminating the values ​​of peace, and providing an analytical framework that links the Qur’anic ritual with universal human values.

Research Methodology: The research relied on the analytical interpretive approach, by extrapolating the Qur’anic verses related to spiritual and social objectives, then analyzing them and linking them to the phenomenon of the Arbaeen pilgrimage.
