The leaders of the Al-aws and Khazraj tribes and their role in supporting the Islamic call (A historical study)

Abstract

The Aws and Khazraj are two tribes whose lineage goes back to the Arab tribe of Azd, which inhabited Yemen, and then some of its clans migrated and settled in Yathrib (Medina). In Islam, the name “Ansar” prevailed over them, although some of them lived in Oman and were not “Ansar”. These two tribes played a major role in events and wars - especially the internal wars between them - in the pre-Islamic era. As for Islam, both of them played an important role in sheltering the Muslims who migrated from Mecca to Yathrib (Medina) and waging wars in support of Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). They devoted all their capabilities to defending the Islamic call and its owner since the first and second pledges of Aqaba. All of this produced a group of leaders who were chosen in the second pledge of Aqaba from the Aws and Khazraj, distinguished in form and content in order to immortalize their memory in its two eras: the pre-Islamic and the Islamic era, and to produce different topics that resulted from those events and their course in the lives of those two Tribes.
