The Syntactic Structure in the Exegetical Narrations of Imam Al-Hadi (Peace Be Upon Him): An Analytical Study

Abstract

This research examines the syntactic structure in the Qur’anic interpretations narrated from Imam Al-Hadi (peace be upon him) through analyzing the semantic and pragmatic dimensions embedded within linguistic structures in the Qur’anic text. The study aims to reveal the nature of the relationship between syntactic structure and interpretive meaning, as well as to demonstrate how Imam Al-Hadi employed syntactic structures in deriving Qur’anic meanings and clarifying the rhetorical and semantic purposes of the noble verses. The research adopts a descriptive analytical approach based on examining interpretive narrations and analyzing their structures according to linguistic and semantic perspectives while benefiting from modern structural concepts in text analysis. The study discusses the concepts of structure and syntax from both linguistic and terminological perspectives before moving to the analysis of selected interpretive examples that reveal the profound syntactic understanding of Imam Al-Hadi, particularly in explaining ellipsis, semantic deviation, comparison between structures, and identifying pragmatic purposes in Qur’anic discourse. The findings indicate that Imam Al-Hadi did not limit his interpretation to the apparent grammatical form, but rather went beyond it to analyze the implicit meanings within the structure and connect them to the broader Qur’anic context, reflecting a profound linguistic and interpretive awareness. The study also demonstrates that syntactic structure represents a central tool in understanding the Qur’anic text and exploring its semantic, rhetorical, and communicative dimensions.
