Jurisprudential Narrations of Imam Hasan al-Askari (peace be upon him) - An Interpretive Study

Abstract

The transmitted legal narrations from the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) represent the fundamental pillar and the second source of legislation for deriving Islamic rulings after the Holy Quran. This is because they contain explanations of the Quran's general principles, details of its specific rulings, and applications of its general principles in various aspects of faith and transactions. Within this framework, this research aims to study the legal narrations of Imam Hasan al-Askari (peace be upon him) through an interpretive lens. The research includes an introduction, three sections, a conclusion, and a list of sources and references. The introduction is titled "The Life and Scholarly Biography of Imam Hasan al-Askari (peace be upon him)." The first section is titled "Narrations of Imam Hasan al-Askari (peace be upon him) on Acts of Worship," in which we selected narrations on fasting and prayer. The second section is titled "Narrations of Imam Hasan ibn Ali al-Askari (peace be upon him) on Contracts and Legal Acts," and it is divided into two parts: the first part focuses on narrations on marriage, and the second part focuses on narrations on faith. The third section, titled "Narrations of Imam Hasan al-Askari (peace be upon him) on Rulings," focuses on narrations concerning obligatory duties, inheritance, and food and drink. The methodology of this study involved examining each narration of the Imam (peace be upon him) in light of the Holy Quran, then reviewing the relevant verse and its interpretation in various commentaries to determine its consistency with the narration.
