Syntactic Criticism of Limits According to Sheikh Muhammad ibn Ali al-Jurjani (lived 730 AH) in his Book “Al-Mabahith al-‘Arabiyya fi Sharh al-Kafiyya al-Hajibiyya”

Abstract

Abstract: The book "Al-Mabahith Al-Arabiyyah fi Sharh Al-Kafiyah Al-Hajibiyah" by Sheikh Muhammad bin Ali Al-Jurjani is characterized by many valuable critical judgments that came as a result of his study of all the topics that Ibn Al-Hajib (646 H) dealt with in his Kafiyah. Therefore, this research came to study and analyze his grammatical criticism and the opinion of previous grammarians on various grammatical issues and his response to them. This is what we will learn about in this research, as we will stand on selected examples of Sheikh Muhammad Al-Jurjani's criticism of the limits.
Grammatical criticism encompasses all aspects of the grammatical corpus, revealing its strengths and weaknesses, correcting what it deems flawed, and promoting what it considers sound. It also relates to all related topics, such as objections and rebuttals, acting as a part to the whole, all of which fall under its authority. The importance of grammatical criticism lies in its role in developing and preserving the rules of the Arabic language, protecting them from errors and distortions. However, critical judgments can sometimes be problematic; a judgment may be incorrect and thus requires further evaluation to correct it and bring it back to the right path.
