Contextual Manifestations in the Poetry of Mustafa Jamal al-Din An Analytical Study

Abstract

The research examines the impact of context on the formation of poetic meaning and its manifestations in the work of the contemporary Iraqi poet Mustafa Jamal al-Din. The linguistic context is insufficient to reach the meaning, but rather linguistic, social, religious, cultural, and historical circumstances intertwine in shaping the structure of his poetic text. The internal linguistic structure interacts with the external structure of the poetic text to contribute to the reproduction of reality through a space in which the intellectual vision of the poetic self is intertwined with the external framework in which the text is produced.                              

         The nature of the research required dividing it into an introduction, two sections, and a conclusion with the most important results I reached. In the first section, I dealt with the theoretical and conceptual framework of the research, which included a summary of the poet’s life, the definition of manifestations and context, and the second section was devoted to the applied study of the types of context and their manifestations in the poetry of Mustafa Jamal al-Din. In this study, I relied on the descriptive and analytical approaches, in light of the selection of poem models and their analysis to reveal the types of context and their manifestations in the poetry of Mustafa Jamal al-Din. This approach is clearly embodied in the applied study, where social, religious and cultural contexts were analyzed as active elements in the production of meaning, which contributes to creating a multi-dimensional poetic text that reflects the concerns of the individual and society.
