The Role of Criminal Law in Mitigating Academic Cheating in School Examinations

Abstract

The phenomenon of cheating in school examinations is one of the serious challenges facing educational systems, as it has negative effects on the quality of education and the credibility of academic certificates. Due to the severity of this issue, many countries have adopted criminal legislation aimed at combating and reducing it by criminalizing acts of cheating and imposing criminal and disciplinary penalties on offenders.

This study focuses on the role of criminal law in combating cheating in examinations by analyzing legal provisions that criminalize this phenomenon and assessing their effectiveness in achieving general and specific deterrence.
