The current research is focused on the assessment of the natural potentials of the Raparin Administration as a strategic basis of industrial development. The region has a diverse geological structure, rich water resources, and suitable topography, creating an appropriate environment for the development of various industrial sectors. Using the method of descriptive analysis combined with data obtained from Geographic Information Systems, the study has shown that the natural potentials, i.e., the resources of mineral stones and water, played an important role in the localization of the construction industry and the food industry; however, these resources are not adequately utilized due to the lack of precise spatial planning, as presented in the concluding part of the research. The study relied on the Descriptive-Analytical Method to analyze the natural data and compare them with industry needs. GIS technology has also been used to create maps and show spatial relationships. Natural capabilities are considered the cornerstone of any industrial activity because they not only determine the type of industry, but also have a direct impact on production costs and competitiveness. As an important geographical unit in the Kurdistan Region, Raperin has environmental and geological characteristics that can become an attractive pole for industrial investment. This study attempts to examine the relationship between the available natural resources and the prospects for industrial development in this region, however, the advancement of human civilization and modern technology has played a very significant role in reducing these negative impacts. However, natural principles directly and indirectly play a major role in the establishment and development of industry in the research area.
The administrative boundary of the research area starts from the east borders with Iran, in the north with the districts (Choman and Ruandz) in Erbil province, in the northwest with the two districts (Khalifan and Shaqlawa) in Erbil province It is bordered by Dukan Lake in Sulaimani Province to the south.
