Reflections of Environmental Values of Children’s Literature: The poetry of Karwan Ali as a Case Study

Abstract

This study, entitled “Reflections of Environmental Values of Children’s Literature: The poetry of Karwan Ali as a Case Study” was conducted to examine the role and influence of children’s literature in developing environmental awareness and installing the noble values of nature conservation in children. The study consists of two main sections. The first section addresses the theoretical aspects, discussing the concept of the environment, the importance of the environment, the relationship between the environment and literature, the characteristics of children’s literature, and the relationship between children and their environment. The second section focuses on identifying environmental values and examining their manifestation in a selection of poems by the poet Karwan Ali, along with a brief overview of the poet’s life. Through an analysis of Karwan Ali’s poetic texts, the study found that the poet, by employing simple language appropriate to children’s intellectual and psychological levels, successfully conveys a range of environmental values, including the conservation of water and natural resources, environmental cleanliness, love for nature and homeland, awareness of the importance of trees and plants, and respect for animal’s right to life. These values are presented through artistic and indirect approaches, contributing to their internalization and their incorporation into children’s everyday behavior.
