This research aims to map the geographical distribution of divorce cases in the Khanaqin District for the year 2025 by analyzing the spatial variation of this phenomenon across three selected administrative units within the district.. The study begins by calculating the crude divorce rate—which stood at 10.94 cases per 1,000 inhabitants for the district as a whole—and examining its relationship with the population size. It then analyzes the distribution of divorce cases across the administrative units, revealing that the highest divorce rate was recorded in the Khanaqin Center Subdistrict (46.9%), while the lowest rate was recorded in the Al-Sa'diyah Subdistrict (10.9%). It also explains the reasons for this spatial variation. Furthermore, the study addresses the key factors influencing the prevalence of divorce—foremost among them social and economic causes—as well as the impact of social media and other factors such as early marriage and domestic violence. The study aims to provide a clear picture of the divorce situation in the Khanaqin District, thereby assisting relevant authorities in devising appropriate solutions to curb this phenomenon and foster family stability.
The research adopted the descriptive analytical approach as the appropriate method for studying the phenomenon of divorce and analyzing its geographical distribution. This was done by collecting data or primary indicators obtained in the field from the internal computer records of the personal status courts in (Khanaqin, Jalawla, Al-Saadiya) for the year 2025, as they reflect the overall and realistic movement of divorce cases, which differ from the central statistics due to the time differences in archiving and administratively verifying the data. Then, it was analyzed using laws, shapes, and geographical maps using (ArcGIS or QGIS) programs to reveal the spatial variation between these administrative units and interpret it in light of the social, economic, and demographic factors affecting the phenomenon.
