Sheikh Muhammad bin Ali al-Jurjani’s grammatical objections in his book “Arab Investigations in Explaining al-Kafiya al-Hajibiyya: The Majruraat as an Example”

Abstract

Grammatical objections are a manifestation of grammatical thinking among Arab grammarians. Among the scholars in whose scientific efforts objections appeared is Sheikh Muhammad bin Ali al-Jurjani (who was alive in 730 AH). In most of his objections, he justified his objection with evidence through which he revealed the scientific ability to state his grammatical opinion. For this reason, I devoted myself in this study to (Sheikh Muhammad bin Ali al-Jurjani’s grammatical objections in his book Al-Mabahith Al-Arabiyyah fi Sharh Al-Kafiya Al-Hajibiya: Al-Majruraat as a model), especially since he often makes Ibn Al-Hajib’s opinions a field for his objections, which prompted me to collect his grammatical objections in Al-Majruraat to be an example of his efforts in objection, criticism, and diligence. In this study, I relied on the descriptive approach in dealing with the issues that Sheikh Al-Jurjani objected to. I begin with what Ibn Al-Hajib said, then I mention his objection to it with the evidence that prompted him to object, and I explain what he sees as more appropriate in his view, and then discuss the issue in light of what the scholars have mentioned, arriving at forming an opinion on it by balancing the statements. I divided this research into two sections, the first section: was the biography of the Sheikh and his works, and the second section: the objections of Sheikh Muhammad bin Ali Al-Jurjani in the grammatical issues of the Majrurat, then I concluded the research with a set of results, and I appended the research with a list of sources and references that I used in writing this research.
