Teaching Competencies Required for Middle School Chemistry Teachers in Light of 21st Century Skills

Abstract

The research aimed to identify the degree to which chemistry teachers possess planning, implementation and evaluation competencies in light of the twenty-first century skills. The researcher relied on the descriptive approach and used a study tool represented by a questionnaire for teaching competencies in light of the twenty-first century skills. It was applied to a sample of teachers consisting of (33) A chemistry teacher in Baghdad Governorate schools. The results of the study concluded that the degree to which chemistry teachers possess the teaching competencies (planning - implementation - evaluation) in light of twenty-first century skills was high for all competencies.

Directing leaders and education officials to prioritize technological competencies, equipping teachers with these skills, and monitoring their use during teaching. Continuing to provide and expand professional development training courses for teachers, monitoring their outcomes, and verifying the achievement of their objectives. Encouraging collaboration, creativity, change, and teamwork within educational institutions. Providing clear and accessible communication tools for all within schools, utilizing modern technology, and training teachers and principals on their use.
