The Role of Context in Determining the Meaning of Words in the Qur'an and Sunnah in Islamic Thought

Abstract

The contextual studies take an important and famous role in the Quranic studies, because of its role in directing the meaning of the word in the Quranic or prophetic text. This research  depends on the study  of the contextual role in directing the pronunciation in the religious text .This research starts with the explanation  of  context in both language and convention  and the study of context in the Islamic thinking .The second research is practical study to the context in the Quranic text and its role in directing  the pronunciations  and defining its characteristics .The third research is about the context in defining the characteristics of pronunciation in the honest sunnah of the prophet. The research ends with a conclusion and the results of research. The index of references.

The reader of the Holy Qur’an and the Noble Prophetic Sunnah can realize the importance of context and its role in determining the nature of a word and determining the correct meaning of the word by studying it within the contextual relationships in the text. We find here that interest in the general context of the text has provided a new and advanced understanding of the word in its textual context and revealed new and deeper semantic dimensions in the Qur’anic text and the Prophetic Sunnah. This has given the text a broader horizon through the new meanings provided by the context.
