Nominative and genitive cases of the accusative noun in » the seven readings »

Abstract

This is the second part, completing the research that was prepared on the grammar of the seven readings. It is specific to the seven readings of the accusative noun, whether it is raised or lowered, or both ways together. I called it “The Raising and Lowering of the Accusative Noun in the Seven Readings.” What is meant by the accusative noun here is what is lowered in the Holy Qur’an according to the reading of the general public, the reading of Hafs from Asim.

The book “The Seven Readings” by Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Musa ibn al-Abbas al-Tamimi al-Baghdadi, known as Ibn Mujahid, who died in the year 324 AH, was our primary source for deriving the readings and attributing them to their owners. The evidence for these readings was what was mentioned in the commentaries, books on the sciences of the Qur’an, and some grammatical books.

This work has been prepared to complement a larger work, the largest part of which has already been prepared, which is concerned with nouns in their three grammatical cases: nominative, accusative, and genitive. The remainder of it is being prepared, God willing, to cover the three parts of speech: nouns, verbs, and particles, in their three grammatical cases as well. We ask God to help us complete it and benefit from it.
