Inheritance To The Throne In Western Sudan

Abstract

Three kingdoms ruled the western Sudan in succession, namely (Ghana, Mali, and Songhai), each of which was distinguished by a special system of inheritance of the throne from the king to his successor. In the pagan kingdom of Ghana, the inheritance of the throne was to the son of the sister, while the kingdom of Mali replaced this with the inheritance of the son from his father since (Mary Jatta) declared his conversion to Islam, so its rule was like that of Muslim rulers. This system ended completely in the kingdom of Songhai, and was replaced by the inheritance of the son from his father.

The system of inheritance through the sister's son, which is unique to the countries of Western Sudan, and as a result of historical data, is considered one of the most suitable systems that existed in those kingdoms, as genetic genes play a major role in that, as we find in the daughter's son the qualities of his mother and maternal uncles, in addition to the pride of the people of Sudan that they attribute him to the daughter and not to his father, who is hardly mentioned, so we find that boy working with all sincerity and dedication, in order to preserve his kingdom which is a trust from his mother and maternal uncles. Rulers may reach the throne through coup and rebellion, which is a matter between negative and positive, if he works to announce the status of his kingdom, and restore its glory, then it is a praiseworthy coup and this is what happened to (Sakura and Al-Asqia Muhammad Al-Turi), but if it increases its weakness and frailty, as happened with the minister (Sandaki), then it is a reprehensible coup, as he did not reform his kingdom.
