Political events and their impact on the number of people buried in theholy cemeteries of Karbala (1921-2017) Analytical documentary study

Abstract

The holy city of Karbala is one of the ancient and ancient cities on earth. It has historical and doctrinal importance for the followers of the Twelver Shia doctrine. Because of its being blessed by the shrine of the Master of Martyrs and his brother Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon them), it has become sacred and blessed.             People come to it from every corner of the world to seek blessings by visiting the holy shrines. Some people even believe, according to the hadiths narrated from the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), that whoever buries the remains of their dead in this blessed spot will experience the intercession of al-Husayn (peace be upon him) on the Day of Musharr. So it became more than a public cemetery in the holy city of Karbala, and in the modern and contemporary era the number of remains buried in these cemeteries has increased, and this increase and disparity has several political reasons as well as environmental and economic reasons, but mostly they are political reasons due to the political fluctuations, wars, revolutions, uprisings and terrorist attacks that Iraq is going through.             Therefore, the research addressed the reasons for the increase and decrease in the number of those buried during the contemporary history of Iraq, explaining the impact of the course of political events in Iraq and their effect on the increase and decrease in those buried in the holy cemeteries of Karbala.
