The eloquent Fā’ and its effect in directing the Qur’anic text: Surat Al-Baqarah as an example

Abstract

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and prayers and peace be upon the best of messengers, our master Muhammad, and upon his family and companions. After that: Studying the Holy Quran requires knowledge of the letters of meaning, as these letters have diverse and different meanings, indications, and a clear effect in deriving rulings and the sayings of commentators. Therefore, the letters of meaning are one of the branches of Arabic grammar, whose effect in directing the Quranic text is not hidden. Commentators often resort to it and cite the opinions of grammarians to strengthen a ruling or a meaning. One of the geniuses of our Arabic language is that a single letter has multiple meanings according to the context in which it appears. This multiplicity and difference in the letters of meaning leads to differences in parsing and meaning. The eloquent Fa’ is considered one of the letters of meaning, as it is a letter of meaning that performs a central function, which is to connect what comes after it to what comes before it, and it has an important effect in understanding the Quranic text, as it reveals and indicates what was omitted before it. Accordingly, this research dealt with: the letters of meanings, their definition and multiple meanings, the effect of the letters of meanings on understanding the texts of the Qur’an, the letter Fa’ in the Holy Qur’an, the eloquent Fa’ and its effect on understanding the Qur’anic text, an applied study of the eloquent Fa and its effect (Surat Al-Baqarah).
