Poet Baqi "Söylesün" analyzes Dhu al-Radeef's poetry

Abstract

This study examines the poem with the rhyme “söylesün” by Baki, known as the sultan of poets among the 16th-century classical Turkish Literature poets. Baki, one of the most imprtant poets of this century, made significant contributions to the development of our divan poetry. His fame extended beyond Ottoman geography reaching Iran, Azerbaijan and Arabia. Despite being highly proficint in Arabic and Persian he generally used a simple language in his poems. In many of his porms, he used simple couplets that resembled the language of the people and paid great attention to popular expressins. In the following centuries Bak’is influence can be seen on Nefi, Nedim, Sheikhul Islam Yahya and also on Sheikh Galip the gerat representative of divan literatüre. This situation demonstrates that Baki was considered a master for many yeras. Additinally writing porms in simple Turkish holds an especially important place in terms of our Turkish language.

On the other hand, there is a formal perfection in his poems. His poetic style is also extremely powerful. Images and dreams are expressed flawlessly, having been carefully considered and weighed. The relationship of each word to the others, whether near or far, is carefully considered. One of the most important features of Baki's poetry is that he brought the clean and soft Istanbul Turkish dialect into the language of poetry. Finally, Baki wrote about the glorious, rich, and victorious life of Suleiman the Magnificent in his poems. Baki has proven to have had a profound influence on the poets of his time and the years that followed. Even great poets such as Navi, who emerged in the 17th century, and Nedim, who emerged in the 18th century, followed in his footsteps.
