Unity of Being in Mawlawi’s Mathnawis between Truth and Claim “An Analytical Study”

Abstract

Human thought varies in its perception of the natural phenomena surrounding it from one person to another and from one time and place to another, each according to his mental and psychological abilities. Therefore, it is noted from time to time the emergence of new intellectual movements and trends that attempt to explain the reality of human existence in particular and the world in general. The search for the great power that established existence and created beings was one of the most important ideas that occupied human thought since the beginning of the emergence of the first civilization on the face of creation, even with the presence of prophets and messengers who tried to guide humanity to the divine truth and the reasons for the creation of the universe. However, there is no doubt that the human mind, which is a limited creature, cannot perceive or comprehend the matter of its unlimited Creator, so these hypotheses and theories fell with the passage of time, especially with the emergence of the Muhammadan message, with which God sealed the Islamic religion. However, there were those who tried to revive those previous theories in the mold and cloak of Islam. Sufi movements appeared in the third century AH and their effects continue to this day. The concept of the unity of being was one of the most important concepts that confused people because of the difficulty of explaining it to the general public and because it contradicts many of the constants of the Holy Quran, although they cite verses from it to support this. However, there are those who tried to hide this belief or make it balanced by taking advantage of symbolism in presenting their Sufi ideas and beliefs, and among them was Jalaluddin Rumi, who differed in the extent of his belief in the unity of being or not. Therefore, this study came as an attempt to clarify this matter based on the writings he left behind, especially his verse book Mathnawi Ma'nawi.
