Abstract

Through this study and research entitled: "Semiotics of Culture in the TV Series " The Stranger of Tous," the researcher sought to understand the nature of culture and its semiotic expression through a television series, as well as the methods used to do . Culture, in its various forms and with its different concepts and peoples, has gone through various stages of development or extinction. It can only be understood through its expression. Here, the diverse methods of expression appear vocally through words and texts, kinetically through signs, or through the symbols used for expression, even through fashion, clothing, traditions, colors, and patterns. All of these connotations appear through a television image for the recipient. Media images play an important role in embodying and consolidating the concepts and values of society in an artistic, cultural, or ideological manner, which is received and received by the recipient through the sender's message. Indeed, both share the transmission and decoding of the meanings of the message and the degree of its acceptance. The study essentially answered the research problem: What is the semiotics of culture in the TV series " The Stranger of Tous " ?  The study revealed the mechanisms used to express these values through understanding the model studied, socially, historically, religiously, artistically and ideologically. Here, the expressive symbols of the desired culture appeared in this work. The researcher relied on the analytical approach by relying on semiotic theories, especially Roland Barthes' semiotic theories to understand the explicit and implicit connotations of texts and images of the message and decode them. He also used John Fiske's semiotic theory, which is concerned with analyzing television programs at the realistic levels or the socio-cultural aspect, and the artistic level, then merging them together through the third aspect, which is the idea or the ideological aspect. The most important results imposed by the study were reached and its problem was resolved by identifying the extent of the impact of this series on the audience and the degree of its reception of the cultural content it contained, which played a role in promoting Islamic culture and revealing an aspect of the Ahl al-Bayt (PT).
