Abstract

The research deals with the most important political and economic developments in the Union of Myanmar (formerly Burma). This period witnessed many radical changes and political and social transformations extending from 1995 to 2015. During this period, Myanmar witnessed important transformations that include the transition from the military regime to democracy, and changes in Economic policies and developments in international relations. The period began with the rule of General Suen Wee, who ruled the country from 1992 until 2011. In 2008, constitutional elections were held and saw Cho Thein Sein assume the position of head of state, but actual power was still in the hands of the army. In 2008, constitutional elections were held and Cho Thein Sein assumed the position of head of state. 2011 Thein Sein assumed the presidency of the government and Myanmar began to transition towards democracy. In 2016, the National League for Democracy party won. This period also witnessed economic and social challenges, including ethnic tensions and human rights violations.
