The urban transport sector is an important sector that requires precision and organization, as it plays a fundamental role within the urban sphere. The problem of the study is that the city of Fallujah witnessed an urban plan through which the urban transport sector received significant attention. Since that time, the city has not witnessed new urban plans, which led to random urban growth and the clustering of commercial and industrial activities on both sides of roads and streets. This growth contributed to the creation of planning problems represented by the presence of random and unplanned urban growth axes, encroachment on the components of the urban transport sector, and the emergence of traffic problems, which affected the axes of urban development. This research aims to clarify the importance of urban transport in shaping the city. This research used both the descriptive and analytical approaches to clarify the importance of urban transport in identifying areas of urban expansion.
The study concluded that urban transportation in Fallujah played a dual role in urban expansion. On the one hand, new roads and highways contributed to opening up areas for urban growth toward the outskirts, encouraging residential, commercial, and industrial expansion. On the other hand, the absence of integrated planning led to urban problems, traffic congestion, and fragmentation of the urban fabric. The study recommends the development of an urban transportation strategy directly linked to a comprehensive planning vision for urban expansion, ensuring sustainable urban development and improving the city's quality of life.
