This research is conducted under the title (Speech Acts in Kurdish Drama: A Case Study of "Gawhar and Her Sisters). The primary objective of the study is to analyze dramatic dialogue through the lens of Pragmatics and John Searle’s Speech Act Theory, to demonstrate how language in dramatic texts transcends mere utterance to become an "action" with a specific intention.
The research consists of three main chapters: Chapter One is dedicated to the general framework of the study. Chapter Two covers the theoretical framework of the concept of drama and speech act theory and its classifications. Chapter Three represents the practical side of the research, featuring a linguistic analysis of five selected episodes (1, 2, 13, 24, 25) from the drama (Gawhar and Her Sisters). These episodes were selected to monitor the progression of speech acts through three main stages (Introduction, Climax/Middle, and Conclusion/Resolution).
The methodology of this research is based on the (Descriptive-Analytical) approach to uncover the hidden intentions of the characters. The study concludes that language in Kurdish drama is not merely an informative system, but a fundamental driver where words—such as (threats, pleas, promises, and decisions)—function to reshape social conflicts and alter the dramatic reality.
This paper consists of three main sections and a number of conclusions and sources. In the first section, the overall framework of the study is described, in which the importance and objectives, the reason for choosing the topic and the limitations of the study are defined. The second part is devoted to the theoretical aspect, which focuses on the concept of drama from a linguistic point of view and the characteristics of Kurdish drama as a socio-linguistic behavior. In the third part, which is the practical aspect of the research, five selected drama series (Jewel and Her Sisters) are analyzed; The beginning, middle and end of the drama are taken as examples of the development of linguistic actions and changes. The force of purpose. In this section, only the main samples are included, while all other analyzed samples are attached to the study by barcode and listed in the references. Finally, the most important results of the study and the list of references are listed.
